Truth in advertising: I hate that show, so everything that follows here will sound angry and bitter. South Park is overhyped the way the Beatles, Friends, and that stupid Fleetwood Mac Rumors album were overhyped. (And yes, I'm aware of how that dates me, and yes, that also means I'm too old to care that it does.) It's nowhere near as funny or trenchant as The Simpsons, which when it gets into politics at least has the intellectual honesty to include characters with opposing opinions. South Park is one of those vanilla establishment productions that has inexplicably developed a reputation for being iconoclastic. Which is why it's so popular: People can feel like they're edgy for watching it without really being challenged by the material.

If I had to guess I'd say that Parker and Stone weren't leaned on by anyone. Like most people, they're cowards who don't walk their talk. No way was that 4-D chess. That show's too lame to be 2-D checkers. If they'd wanted to sprinkle in any truths, the anti-vax characters would have been shown to be right in the end. If they wanted to alert people to anything, as opposed to keeping them asleep, they could have had the lead characters straight-up say something. That was blatant, shameless vax-shilling.
